Ever since I can remember, my dad thrust the words "Carpe Diem" into my head. As a five-year-old who just wanted barbies and candy, I didn't care much for the phrase. Walking through this crazy journey called life, I've learned what it really means to "cease the day". Life is enchanting to me for this very reason. We can accomplish WHATEVER we want. When I heard from adults that dreams really do come true, and then I see that millions of people fail every day, it seems that phrase would become less and less encouraging. Nonetheless, I wanted it. I wanted it because I knew that if I worked for it, I COULD have it. I wanted that dreamlike feeling that filled my childhood soul forever.
At seventeen years old, I haven't been through the toughest trials I know I'm yet to face. Yes, life is difficult, and I've seen it's difficulties every day of my life. Does that mean we can't be happy through the turmoil? HECK NO. I've had nights where I barely sleep a second because of the obstacles that have been put in my life. If we conquer them, we will come out triumphant. This always seems to be the hardest part of finding happiness, conquering these things put in our way. Loneliness, depression, heartbreak. These are all things that keep us from that "enchantment" that every person desires. Who doesn't want to be happy? Be courageous. Let go. And move forward!
God is real. And he put this enchanting feeling into my life. A couple summers ago, my brother, our friends, and I went on a trip to Park City to go see the band OneRepublic. Life changing moment for me! This is one of those times I felt complete happiness and.. yes. Enchanted. Our souls were on fire. I walked into the amphitheater stoked, but completely oblivious to the experience I was about to have. All day we listened to OneRepublic, and honestly, I was thinking, "We're gonna get tired of them before we even see them!" No. Noooooo. We watched the two opening acts, which were pretty amazing. And finally, after what seemed like hours, OneRepublic lit up the stage. Every person jumped to their feet, and we had stellar seats! We could almost touch the band. Right up against the rope. Ryan Tedder's voice was like an angel, and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. There's nothing quite like unexpected thrill and joy. Ever since that night, I've been completely obsessed with the band, and love it like nothing else. Not only did I feel the magic myself, but I got to share with with my best buds.
Life is about moments. Creating memories. FULL of bliss. Sharing it with the people you love. Yeah, life's going to be bad sometimes, but we need to take every "now" moment, and make it wonderful, because that's all we have. We only have this moment. Take a hold of your life and please, because there's no better way to live, make it enchanting.
